Master of the Universe

You are what you do every day.

You are your environment.

You are who you surround yourself with.

You are your beliefs.

You are your habits.

As James Clear, author of Atomic Habits would say, “There is no such thing as fate or destiny… you put it out to the universe and it happens because you are setting up your environment for success… you are creating space and inhabiting your beliefs.”

So, let’s break it down.

Think about the parts of your day that are enjoyable, maybe you have feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction, you feel confident and supported. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Zero in on actions you are repeating each time you have these moments, and you will find the habits that led you there.

What part of your day is least enjoyable? Go through this same experiment, and you may find habits here as well, ones that you could probably stand to adjust or change.

“Want to look into your future?” says James, “look at your habits.”

You are a picture of the things you do everyday, what you’ve learned and what you’ve worked hard to “become.”  You can become or unbecome anything you put your mind to.

I’ve talked in the past about “re-writing your story,” digging into your beliefs and where they come from. What do you believe about yourself? What stories do you tell yourself about who you are?

Why are you not telling yourself the story of who you want to be

Your habits, your beliefs and your environment are tightly woven, and you can weave any picture that you want.

So the question is, what picture are you painting? Step back and take a look, if there are angles, corners, even lines you do not like, dig in and reshape those pieces of the pattern.

In the end, you are the artist of your own life and oh what a beautiful masterpiece you can create!
