But why?

So we’ve established some vision of our life, we’re going to be all grown up about hitting that new years mark and realigning our thoughts and feelings with the universe, breaking down our large goals, into smaller goals and actions, defining our skills and abilities to be successful. This is all so great and awesome and inspiring, we know our "What!” What we want, where we want to go, maybe even how we’re going to get there. But there’s one thing missing. Do you know your "Why?” Because without your Why, things will get real hard real soon and your what will slowly fade.

So let’s think, what are your intentions? What are the positive changes in your life if you succeed with your goals, and the negative changes? What are the reasons for those goals, no really, those deep down reasons. Dig deeper, not just “Oh I want to feel better” or “I want more free time” but deeper, what will that get you? What does more free time, or feeling better really mean to you, why is that something that you want? Will feeling better help you enjoy your kids more, will it give you more confidence in your daily life? Will managing your time help you enjoy other aspects of your life, give you more time with your family, more time to do the things you love? But why?? Dig DEEPER.

Okay, so another layer of why, because come on, we can all say the same things about these goals as I just wrote above. But what is YOUR, personal, deep down reason for the vision and the changes you wish to see in your life? Maybe as a kid you always felt shy or uncomfortable, you never felt like you could run during gym class like other kids, you didn’t like changing in the locker rooms, or you always wanted to try new hobbies but didn’t have the confidence, the money or the time, maybe your family could never afford good food or new sports, and making more money or having more time alleviates those feelings of deprivation or anxiety. There is ALWAYS deeper, and the deeper you dig the more why’s you have, the more successful you will be when the shiny, new idea of change wear off and the daily grind of habit and sacrifice settle in. These are the values that are important to you, and the why’s that will take you through the challenging times. Just like the old saying goes, "nothing worth it, is ever easy” and to make real change, to live towards a real vision, is “getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
