The Sunrise Effect
How is this not like life? The anticipation, disappointment, hope, perseverance, doubt. Braving the darkness, the quiet lonely landscape, the chilly water, the unknown. Sitting and questioning, unsure of the next moment, yet so sure of the now.
Wanna stick around awhile?
So, you want to kick around this place a bit longer, and maintain or regain your energy and physical aptitude? Then you need to move your body, and not just any kind of movement. There are specific ways you should aim to move to keep your body and your mind running and responding in tip top form!
MUSCLE. BRAIN. HEART.
Why are you so Weird?
What I don’t understand is the stigma around “healthy” people, it’s not cool to be healthy. We humans feel pressure to belong, feel included, our biology yearns for a community to accept us.
Can you Stick with it?
Our health is not something we can simply work on one day, and put aside the next. It needs to come from within, be part of who we are, leading the charge in our day to day choices. We are not “good” one day and “bad” the next, we are the sum of our parts. We decide what those parts add up to, and in the end, we pay the price.
Get your Shit together!
Take out the bad stuff, put in the good stuff, and activate your body’s own internal mechanisms for healing and repairing! And then you have the key to longevity!
Dying Young?
Do you want to grow younger every year for as long as possible? We can’t live forever, but we can enjoy life to the fullest while we are here!
Cancelling Girl’s Night, Again?
Our Epigenome (the genes we were born with) cannot be changed, but the genes we choose to use are up to us! If we want to live a long, healthy life, and live our last 15-20 years thriving and disease-free, we have choices we can make now to get us there.
Your Life is in Your Hands
The human body is amazing, responsive and resilient! That we can make such marked changes to our health through movement and nutrition is underrated and overwhelming, but we hold the key to living our best lives, for ourselves and our children.
Spring Forward, Health Behind.
Spring forward. We like extra light in the evenings and longer days, but notice how jet-lagged you feel for days after the time change… When all of these clocks are thrown off, the body feels out of sync and is at risk for chronic disease, sleep and metabolic disorders, and the list goes on.
What do you Hate NOT doing?
The important thing to understand, is no one is making you choose, you can choose whatever you WANT to choose. YOU decide what to build your day, your career, your life around. Make your list and hold it close.
Be enough.
BE enough. Be BRAVE. Take one small step, make one different choice, dismiss one small doubt. Chip away and break free.
You are your Mitochondria
Do you want to live as long as possible? Is longevity important to you? How about living a long time but without disease?
22 Thoughts from 2022
Your dog can teach you more about love than Netflix. Stop spending so much time learning life from tv, and go walk your dog.
Respond to Life
Who we believe we are, is who we are. It’s uncanny that we can live a reactive life, yet in reality we are the drivers of our own truth.
A New Perspective
I decided to take the holiday week off from writing and posting, and that week turned into three. What is this phenomenon, why does this happen? Procrastination for me, is simply a coping mechanism. So, I dug deeper. Why was I putting off something I enjoy so much?
Those “seasonal” feelings of Anxiety are REAL
Curling up (maybe with a glass of wine?) and avoiding cold weather, phone calls from friends, favorite sports.. we know it’s not the best way to handle our emotions.
Now, let’s look at your Environment
Can’t walk by the office breakroom without stopping for candy, donuts, or the vending machine? Stop walking by the breakroom.
The first step is Awareness…
Wanting and Doing are two different parts of your brain. The only way to make change is to take Action.
Then how how much DO I eat?
So, we can't rely on activity trackers to tell us how many “calories” we burned, then how DO we regulate the right amount of food to maintain our weight?
